So Long And Thanks For All The Fish! (For Patheos) UPDATE

The following was the only thing left on Patheos: Paths Through The Forests when Rua had deleted all content upon deciding to leave.

The Ex-Writers of Paths Through The Forests

Rua Lupa (“Rua”) and Lupa Greenwolf (“Lupa”) have been writing at Patheos since April 24, 2014 and have enjoyed their time here. When Beliefnet acquired Patheos in September 2016, we were assured that things would continue much the same way. But come February a new contract was sent out to most of the writers with a three day limit to sign. Most everyone balked at such a hasty demand, and upon reading found that it was a contract that did not treat us writers with any rights to our own work. Many left then and were ultimately blocked from accessing their work. And when the writer’s, who had not even signed this contract that would give these new owners the legal use of our writing, demanded to have their writing taken down. It was denied to them.

Lupa was one such victim. Rua, whom is writing to you now, had stayed on to see how things would play through after publishing their latest writing that they were in the middle of when all this was happening. Even though those who stayed on had seen a payment for the first time since writing, I was troubled by the denial of removal of other writer’s work when requested, and even if I desired to stay on, the new contract was written out to Lupa Greenwolf – not me. And when I pointed that out (prior to seeing how the other writer’s work was denied to them) they sent a new one but only corrected for the address. It was pretty clear that they didn’t care for me as a contributor to this host site. And when my co-writer remained in limbo about having her work taken down as requested, I decided that even if I pushed for having that in my contract, even if I was staying, that I was at great risk of receiving the same treatment – being blocked and denied. Past actions are great indicators for future actions after all. So I decided to just transfer all my writing and images to my personal blog and delete everything at Patheos. While I was at it, I managed to figure out how to delete Lupa’s posts for her.

Addendum, March 3rd 2017 C.E.
Patheos had blocked me and used a backup they had to put back all of Lupa’s and my writing.

This is an illegal use of our writing having never signed the new contract and how our old contract acknowledges termination of contract.

8. Term and Termination. (a) This Agreement shall begin on the Effective Date of this Agreement (meaning the date the Agreement is signed by Patheos). Either Party may terminate this Agreement at any time upon thirty (30) days written notice. In the event Author terminates this Agreement because Patheos is in default, Patheos may cure the default prior to the expiration of the 30-day notice period and, in that event, this Agreement shall continue and such termination notice shall be deemed null and void.
